LEM lockout devices and valve lockouts are available in many stock sizes and designs. The OSHA lockout/tagout Standard states that: Lockout and tagout devices shall be singularly identified; shall be the only devices used for controlling energy; shall not be used for other purposes; and shall meet the following requirements:

• Durable: Capable of withstanding the environment to which they are exposed for the maximum period of time that exposure is expected. LEM offers three materials for safety lockout padlocks. Choose one that will fit your needs:
  • Xenoy® – lightweight, non-conductive, injection-molded thermoplastic (Xenoy® is a registered trademark of General Electric Corporation)
  • Aluminum – with bright powder-coated finish
  • Steel – laminated for superior strength
• Standardized: Devices shall be standardized within a facility in at least one of the following criteria: color, shape or size. LEM safety products are available in safety red.
• Substantial: To prevent removal without the use of excessive force (such as cutting tools) or other unusual techniques.
• Identifiable: Must indicate the identify of the employee applying the device. LEM safety locks and safety tags include a write-on area to identify the person responsible.
